I think 2003/4 will be the year that:

- companies with 1-999 computers realise they don't have to buy Adobe branded products to create 'Acrobat' PDFs (of course, those with 1000+ will eagerly purchase Acrobat Elements...:O).

- your average department start to realise that Acrobat (whether Standard or Pro) has lots of stuff they don't need, at a newly hiked price. They are interested in the PDF commenting feature, but Adobe continues to avoid offering a low-price PDF commenting tools. Frustrated, companies are forced to look further afield - and are pleasantly surprised to find that more enterprising firms are marketing just such an option, at a very competitive price. They get a product that does what they want, without all the 'frills' at a price that allows it to be put on an increased number of desks - which is their main concern. They buy it.

- The Adobe Form Server rigmarole is hastily reorganised as it becomes apparent that companies prefer the sound of the forthcoming Microsoft solution, especially now that they are actively encouraging 3rd party developers, with the open XML approach.

- Acrobat Capture dies, due to poor marketing and competitively priced product such as Scansoft PaperPort Office.

Overall - PDFs increase in popularity, but - as it is an open standard - increased competition results in Adobe Inc. losing market share.

PDF forms start to lose ground, as Microsoft et al come out with a cleverly marketed solution that is more 'inclusive' than the 'megabucks' one offered by Adobe.

Well, could be a load of hooey of course, but time will tell. I know there are a raft of new products on the horizon, hopefully they've had a few clever ideas. And locked the marketing department in their office and thrown away the key. :O)
