Given Adobe's desperation to get more revenue streams on the go, I'm surprised they didn't launch a separate Catalog product with advanced functionality. Provided it was reasonably priced (say $100) it would be well-received, given the fact that it turns a pile of PDFs into a mini document-management system.

Wonder when the new IIS Filter is due out?
