This is correct, and in this case, we can not blame Adobe alone. Fact
is that the Mac version of MS Office does not have the sufficient
program interface to get those links out.
Note that in order to get any "extra" features from an application
(and that is not only so with MS Office), that application must
provide the means to do so. In the cases where there is a
sufficiently powerful programming interface, it can be done with an
add-on to that application (such as the various PDFMaker macros on
the Windows side). If that is not the case, it is not possible to
pass that "extra" information to Distiller.
So, if I can find a way to create the according information for
Distiller from within that application, I can get it through.
One workaround would be to add very specific type styles to the link
sources (and targets), and use a production plug-in in Acrobat to
create the links there.
Another workaround would be to find a way to create some kind of a
pre-processor within Mac MS Office which would interpret the "extra"
features and create the according PDFMARK codes for Distiller. I
don't know if that is possible at all, however.
Hope, this can help.
