Alex,

Let's ignore the licensing issue. That is a red herring that really
shouldn't get you off the track of your problem.

First, have you ever been able to make any PDF files from the
Distiller sitting on this machine?

You say that sometimes the PS files just sit and don't get
processed. Other times they are moved to the Out folder but there
is no PDF.

But have you ever had a PDF made on that machine?

The reason I ask is that on one of my machines I have never been
able to get Distiller to make a PDF from a PS file. I am able to
make PDF's through the PDF Printer, but never from a PS file.
(And Distiller 5 does make PDFs from those PS files without a
hiccup.)

After many long phone calls and e-mails and other diagnostics
with a very high-up engineer on the Distiller team, he and the rest
of the Adobe folk came to the conclusion that my system is
corrupted.

Right now I'm waiting for a free day to reinstall OS X and then all
my software to see if I can fix the problem.

I hope that this isn't your problem, but it is worth knowing that
Acrobat 6 can run, Distiller can create PDF files, but there can still
be something wrong with your OS X system that causes PS files
not to be Distilled.
