Hi all,

I'm new to PDF creation, but a long time ago when PC's were just a curious sideshow I used Macs as my main tool. An even longer time ago I was given a bachelor's degree in computer science, but nonetheless I have plenty of stupid questions.

1 I'm using Ghostscript GSview 4.4. I was lucky enough to pick a colour printer driver (HP Colour laser 8500 PS) for creating PRN files. What issues are there in choosing a driver ? Bearing in mind my remaining questions, how is my choice ?

2 I haven't yet got to grips with the details of Ghostview/Script much, but am making some satisfactory PDF's. One problem - I converted a web page printed to PRN from Explorer 6 but the page header & footer font didn't come through ('Invalid Font' on opening in Acrobat Reader 6, and the characters are displayed as dots). Opening the PDF with Ghostscript, it displays fine.

Why did this happen ? Is it possible to configure GhostScript 8.00 with a font substitution table to get Truetype fonts translated to postscript ones in the PDF ? What other solutions are there ? (And given that the web page isn't likely formatted with PS fonts, how come they reach Acrobat reader OK ? Why does the PDF display OK in Ghostscript but not Acrobat Reader ?

3 Problem (2) above is pretty trivial, but more serious when I am handling Japanese text, which always produces 'invalid font' messages and fails to display. These I am having to resolve by re-formatting with Postscript fonts. I plan to try installing a Japanese printer driver, but hopefully pre-armed with some advice.

Can anyone help with some background explanation, or suggestions based on similar experiences ?

Thanks in advance.

Adding a PDF Stamp Comment

OK, so you want to stamp your document. Maybe you need to give reviewers some advice about the document's status or sensitivity. This tip from author Ted Padova demonstrates how to add stamps with the Stamp Tool along with related comments.
