Topic: Submit to Access Database No Longer Works
Conf: (P-PDF) Acrobat 6.0, Msg: 91833

I have a web application that has the user fill out a PDF form in a browser and then click a button to submit the data to an Access database on the server.

When the button is clicked, a javascript function runs to check for valid data and then submits the form to an ASP page using this.submitForm("CheckAdd3.asp, false")

When the submitted data is posted to the database, a page is displayed confirming the record was added.

This all worked fine in Acrobat 5.0. (Didn't matter whether Reader or full product was used.) This does not work in Acrobat 6.0 Professional. When the submit button is clicked, nothing happens. The PDF form remains in the browser and the data is not posted to the database. There has been NO change to this web app. I just upgraded to 6.0 from 5.0 and now it doesn't work.

I have uninstalled 6.0 and reinstalled 5.0 and I'm back in business.

Anyone have any ideas why this would not work in 6.0?

Why eBooks and mobile devices don't (yet) pose an existential threat to the PDF

Continuous upheaval is what makes watching the technology industry so exciting. David vs. Goliath battles are waged every day, with startups often winning against much larger businesses. For years and years, many have predicted the decline of the PDF given its age and perceived disadvantages. Today, with the PDF losing ground in emerging areas like mobile and eBooks, the calls for its ultimate demise are growing louder.
