The latest Tip: "AcroTip - Optimizing and Saving PDFs as Older Versions" suggests using File, Reduce File Size to reduce the file size and make the file compatible with older versions of Acrobat.

However, if you have destinations in your file that are used by another file and not in that actual file (e.g. you are linking from a contents/menu file to specific named destinations in other files), then these destinations will be deleted when you run this command. If you have Professional use PDF Optimizer instead, because you remove the checkmark next to Remove unused named destinations.

Just thought this should be mentioned, because it's very annoying to have spent ages setting a load of named destinations only to have them disappear (as we discovered - fortunately, we had a slightly older backup version of the file in question which still had most of the named destinations).
