Topic: FDF/PDF Merge 'File read Error
Conf: (P-PDF) Developers, Msg: 92770

I am using the FDFMerge, Acrobat 5.0 and Java. I have created a servlet that creates a new FDFDoc, sets the values from a database, sets the pdf document, and saves the file.

When I run the servlet, it creates the FDF fine and launches Acrobat (I'm assuming to do the merge and display the pdf to the user). I get the following error at this point:

"There was an error opening this document. A file read error has occurred."

When I open the created FDF file, Acrobat starts and opens it just fine with no errors.

I would like to create the FDF file and then display it merged with the pdf, as a pdf document instead of form, to the user but without the user having the ability to change the values. Can it be done and how do I accomplish this?

Here is a code snippet of the servlet. Your help is greatly appreciated.

FDFDoc outputFDF = null;
outputFDF = new FDFDoc();outputFDF.SetFile( "C:/BSUploadFiles/DeltaEnrollment.pdf" );
// Get data from database and set FDFDoc values
outputFDF.SetValue( ...);
OutputStream out = response.getOutputStream();

Adding a PDF Stamp Comment

OK, so you want to stamp your document. Maybe you need to give reviewers some advice about the document's status or sensitivity. This tip from author Ted Padova demonstrates how to add stamps with the Stamp Tool along with related comments.
