I'm wondering if anyone could help me with this error that I am getting. First, a little explanation of what I am doing. I'm trying to pre-populate fields on a pdf using Active pdf. The problem is the layout of the fields are "comb fields"..i.e. |_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_| So if this field is say the name. The 1st letter of the name should go in the 1st box of the "comb field"..the 2nd letter of the name should go in the 2nd box of the "comb field"..etc. So what I have done is created a hidden field that holds the name. And then on the "Page Open" Page Action of the pdf, I call the below code that takes the value in the hidden field and populates each box of the comb field accordingly. One thing to note, I had to name each box in the comb field separately.

The code I am using to do this:

function displayCombFld(hiddenFldNme) {
var fl = Math.min(this.getFieldhiddenFldNme).value,
this.getFieldhiddenFldNme).charLimit) ;
var chrLim = this.getField(hiddenFldNme).charLimit;
//Populate boxes
for (var x = 0 ; x < fl ; x++) {
this.getField(hiddenFldNme + "_c." + x).value =
(this.getField(hiddenFldNme).value + " ").charAt(x);
}
}

//Loops through hidden fields and calls displayCombFld function
for (var y=0; y < this.numFields; y++) {
if (this.getField(this.getNthFieldName(y)).hidden) {
displayCombFld(this.getNthFieldName(y));
}
}

The error I am getting:

"Acrobat Database Connectivity Built-in Functions Version 5.0
Acrobat EScript Built-in Functions Version 5.0
Acrobat Annotations / Collaboration Built-in Functions Version 5.0

TypeError: this.getField(hiddenFldNme + "_c." + x) has no properties"

See, here's the thing, I'm testing this in Acrobat 5.0. And everything seems to be working fine. I'm actually getting this error after I have written to the pdf with ActivePDF and then I open it. Does anyone have any idea why there would be a difference? And what this error means?

Please help!!!

Thank you in advance.

Adding a PDF Stamp Comment

OK, so you want to stamp your document. Maybe you need to give reviewers some advice about the document's status or sensitivity. This tip from author Ted Padova demonstrates how to add stamps with the Stamp Tool along with related comments.
