If like me you keep up to date with your Windows patches and new features, watch out for problems with Windows Journal Viewer.
Not too sure whose fault it is (odds are on Microsoft, as they muttered something about registry key errors) but you will find intermittent install problems if you have WJV on machines prior to loading Acro 6.
As Acro6 is started for each new user of a networked machine, we found that WJV started a deadly embrace install routine which could only be cancelled via Task Manager. Quick and dirty solution is just to remove WJV.
(People seem to think WJV is for TabletPCs only - in fact it is used on non-Tablets to enable viewing of Journal files produced by them)
