Finally had a chance to test drive Catalog 6 vs. Catalog 5 across network files... and was pleasantly surprised.

In short...
Adobe Reader 6 worked fine with a v5 index (and fast)

Acrobat 6 Pro created an index of the same fileset, and it came in significantly smaller than the 5 index.

Adobe Reader 6 working with a 6 index was impressively fast - and far less unwieldy to use than I had suspected. The slight extra delay in displaying results is more then compensated for by the extra functionality.

This was on Windows platform only, and with a document set of about 300 server based files.

Just a shame that fewer people will discover Catalog now it has been relegated to Pro... :O(

Today, with the PDF losing ground in emerging areas like mobile and eBooks, the calls for its ultimate demise are growing louder.
