Acrobat 3 is PDF 1.2.
This has some very funky colour space support, a very good reason to
stay away from it. Saying that, however, if you are saving back from
PDF 1.4 or PDf 1.3 to v1.2, then this shouldn't be an issue.
Have you looked on the Adobe website for documents which point out the
differences between what Acrobat 3 supports and 4 and above?
Also forward them stuff in relation to PDF 1.3 being the basis for
PDF/X; the de-facto standard for PDF in a publishing workflow.
