BCL Technologies launches multi-function PDF tool
The people behind Acrobat's native content extraction capabilities have just released a new multi-function PDF application. ALLPDF Converter integrates PDF Creation capabilities of BCL's easyPDF utility with the PDF extraction technology (to RTF) for which it has become well-known.

Adobe, IPTC collaborate on metadata standards for news orgs
Adobe Systems is collaborating with the International Press Telecommunications Council to extend IPTC metadata through the use of Adobe's Extensible Metadata Platform (XMP), an XML-based specification that provides a standardized framework to capture and manage information describing files.

Adobe & partners piloting first-of-kind, PDF-based ID authentication
Fruit of their strategic relationship, Adobe Systems and Identrus are offering a digital signature solution that creates legally binding electronic documents, combining Identrus signatures into Adobe PDF files. Following a pilot test, Wells Fargo Bank plans to deploy the solution across its multinational businesses.

Adobe posts v.6.0.2 updater for Acrobat & Reader
Adobe Systems has posted a version 6.0.2 update for both its commercial Acrobat 6.0.1 -- Professional and Standard -- and its free Adobe Reader 6.0.1 software, which fixes a number of problems and adds some enhanced functionality. The v.6.0.2 updates for Macintosh and Windows are available from the PDF Store, an official mirror site.

Acrobat 5.0.10 plug-in update fixes PDF vulnerability
For those still working with the previous full version of Acrobat, Adobe Systems has posted a 5.0.10 plug-in update for Acrobat 5.0.5 (Windows), designed to fix a vulnerability with the potential to "execute arbitrary code from a malicious PDF document."
