Acrobat 4.0. What it's got for us

Adobe Systems Inc. announced the release of Acrobat 4.0 at Seybold in the past week. It will be available late March. So where is Adobe's software heading? Into a seamless convergence. Acrobat now works with Illustrator and Photoshop. Add to this new products for managing and creating PDFs like GoLive (for web publishing) and InDesign (for professional design and publishing) and Adobe is placed at the forefront of where software is taking us.

In Adobe's official press release and FAQ they outline the future for Acrobat users. It marks what appears to be a fantastic array of new tools and looks set to mark the direction in effective document collaboration and workflow into the next millenium. It also seems as if the "Acrobat Exchange" has gone and from now on we are to call it just "Acrobat". Underline text - for underlining passages of text
Text annotation - add rectangle box to page. Display straight on the page.
Audio annotation - record audio straight to into PDF
Stamp - add stamps from straight to page
File annotation - add/embed files straight into a PDF file

Additionally you can add various annotations and make a summary of them for easy review.

Copy and paste them between PDFs

Security

Add security, passwords, signatures to your PDFs. Use the 'Self Sign' for signing off document reviews.

Optimise PDFs

Optimise PDFs for print, web and print press.

Image and text touch up tools

Open and edit images and text from Acrobat with applications like Photoshop and Illustrator.

Compare PDFs

Open two versions of a document and compare the changes between them. Each difference is highlighted.

Web Capture

Turn web sites into a fully functioning PDF. All links, forms and so on are automatically changed to work in PDF.
