PR: Zinio licenses Adobe PDF Library for new digital magazine service
Seamless integration with magazine publishers, compelling on-screen reading experience
20 November 2001
BRISBANE, CA -- Zinio Systems Inc., a leading developer of innovative digital magazine technology and services, today announced it has licensed the Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) library from Adobe Systems Incorporated and that it will integrate key components of Adobe PDF into Zinio digital magazine technology. Zinio, which will commercially launch its services in Q1 2002, delivers cover-to-cover digital versions of print magazines. The licensing agreement enables Zinio to deliver a compelling user experience while seamlessly integrating with the production infrastructure of the magazine publishing community.
"Zinio's licensing agreement with Adobe further illustrates the position of Adobe PDF as the standard publishing production format, and allows us to deliver the most compelling on-screen magazine reading experience possible," said Kevin McCurdy, founder and CEO of Zinio.
The Zinio system delivers digital copies of magazines to the existing installed base of personal computer users. The company recently announced its commitment to the next-generation mobile business PCs by formally announcing its support of the Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition platform at COMDEX. Zinio's highly intuitive digital magazine technology goes beyond the print experience by providing interactive capabilities and features not possible with paper -- readers can enjoy their favorite magazines anytime, anywhere, taking advantage of features such as searching, annotating and archiving.
"By entering into this licensing agreement with us, Zinio will have the opportunity to leverage the industry's best ePaper document format-Adobe PDF-in its digital magazine technology," said Harry Vitelli, senior director of Acrobat product management, Adobe Systems Incorporated. "From document fidelity to file security and strong market penetration, Adobe PDF offers the most reliable production, delivery and consumption format for Zinio's partners and customers."
