Adobe Systems updates Acrobat to v.5.0.5
Update patches for both Windows and Macintosh 5.0 versions now available

NEW: Adobe has posted a reduced file size version of the Acrobat 5.0.5 patch for Windows to its FTP site -- the newer version is 9 MB compared to 13 MB for the initial release. If you installed the previous patch, there is no need to download and use the smaller version, according to Adobe. Also, the Acrobat 5.0.5 patch for Macintosh -- both English and Japanese -- is now available as a 15 MB patch. These patches can also be used to update Acrobat Approval 5.0, according to Adobe.
Owners of Acrobat 5.0 can update their original versions of the product with the appropriate free-to-download patch [links below]. Customers can also request a "replacement CD" from Adobe for around $20, which will contain version 5.0.5 -- call Acrobat Customer Support.
Acrobat 5.0.5 for Windows provides additional compatibility and fixes known issues, including support for Microsoft Windows XP and better integration with Microsoft Office XP. Acrobat 5.0.5 for Macintosh includes support for Mac OS X and adds macros for one-click PDF creation from MS Office applications.

Adobe Acrobat 5.0.5 provides improved Accessibility, Online Comments, Digital Signatures, PDF creation, Forms creation, Forms data entry, Installation, Overprint Preview, Spelling, and TouchUp functions. Adobe Acrobat 5.0.5 also corrects problems reported with viewing and printing of specific PDF files.
Adobe Acrobat 5.0.5 for Windows also adds improved support for Windows XP and Netscape 6.0. The Acrobat 5.0.5 product CD also includes the Make Accessible and paper Capture plug-ins. Use the Make Accessible plug-in to make a PDF file accessible. Use the Paper Capture plug-in to convert electronic documents to PDF files including optical character recognition.
