Spreading the PDF Gospel in South Korea
Acrobat awareness event modeled after PDF Conference in U.S.

10 April 2002

By Kurt Foss, Planet PDF Editor

A small contingent of Acrobat/PDF evangelists, including Planet PDF's Karl De Abrew, are taking part in a free, one-day seminar in South Korea on April 11.

According to Jinsoo Kim, President and CEO of Image Solutions, Inc. (ISI) and one of the organizers of the event, the purpose is to "promote PDF in Korean market." Between 250-500 attendees are expected for the mix of sessions featuring two tracks -- for general interest and developers -- and several combined sessions.

Carl Young, host and founder of the popular PDF Conference series, is the conference keynote speaker and will also provide an overview of Acrobat/PDF in another session. The format is an abbreviated version of Young's twice-annual PDF Conference, next slated for the Washington, DC area in early June. [NOTE: Those registering for PDF Conference East 2002 during April receive a free copy of ARTS PDF Tools, a $149 add-on to Acrobat 5 for Macintosh and Windows.]

Among others scheduled to address one or more PDF-oriented topics:

  • Kim will address the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) electronic submission process, and discuss paper-to-PDF conversion.

  • Paul Showalter of the Internal Revenue Service, the largest U.S. federal government user of Adobe Acrobat and PDF with its tax forms and myriad publications, will talk about how and why -- and how MUCH -- the IRS uses PDF.

  • De Abrew, CEO of Binarything (parent company of Planet PDF) and Leonard Rosenthol, Chief Technology Officer of PDF Sages, will cover basic PDF programming issues.

  • Rosenthol will also discuss the use of XML and PDF together.

  • De Abrew will moderate a "PDF Power Panel" session, inviting attendees to ask questions of the presenters.

  • Jinho Kang will talk about e-Form Development.

FYI: Rosenthol has posted several sets of digital images from the group's visit to Korea, including 'Room with a View' and 'Touring the DMZ' (the demilitarized zone separating North and South Korea).
