Adobe names Chief Software Architect for PDF-based Intelligent Documents in new Office of Technology
Also a new CSA for publishing and graphics to help drive innovation

6 April 2004

Tom Malloy was named as Adobe Systems' new chief software architect -- the engineering lead in the company's new Office of Technology -- for PDF-based Intelligent Documents, formerly called ePaper Solutions. Greg Gilley was appointed to a similar post for publishing and graphics. Their charter is to "spearhead development of advanced technologies and further the company's leadership in software innovation," according to an Adobe news release.

The new office includes the former Advanced Technology Group (ATG), which Malloy has led for the past nine years. ATG's accomplishments include a number of the advanced features in Adobe® Photoshop®, Adobe Illustrator®, Adobe Postscript®, Adobe Acrobat® and the Portable Document Format (PDF) technology. ATG's document technology programs will now "focus more directly on Adobe's growing Intelligent Documents business, which is building on the success of PDF as the de facto standard for secure and reliable document transmission to automate document-based enterprise processes."

"Adobe innovations in digital imaging, publishing and document technologies have set the standards for excellence for more than 20 years," said Shantanu Narayen, Adobe's executive vice president of worldwide products. "Greg, Tom and the entire Office of Technology will play an essential role in driving the next generation of our software technology platforms, with virtually unlimited possibilities for business, creative and home computing. We look forward to helping shape customers' communications through Adobe innovations over the next 20 years."
