Vitrium Systems releases web-based protectedpdf Small Business Edition

As mentioned in Dan Shea's column from last week, Vitrium Systems has released protectedpdf Small Business Edition (SBE). Randa Codron, Marketing Manager for Vitrium said this release is the first DRM solution that does not require readers to download and install either a plug-in for Adobe Reader or a third-party proprietary viewer.

Thanks to the new Acrobat Geospatial & Mapping Gallery, you can now download a geospatially aware PDF map of Obama's inaugural parade route. The Gallery is a user-contributed showcase of PDF maps, and this particular map has been credited to Scott Lee of TerraGo Technologies.

Gmail adds a PDF viewer

As of December 12, everyone's (OK, well, my) favorite web-based email client has officially added fast PDF viewing to its bag of tricks. This functionality is not entirely new, of course. As Google Software Engineer, Marc Miller's official blog post notes, the PDF viewer in question was already available as part of Google Docs. Nevertheless, its integration into Gmail was both a nifty addition and a natural evolution of the technology.
