Monkeybread announces Combine PDFs 5.1 for Mac OS X

Monkeybread Software has announced Combine PDFs 5.1, an update to its PDF merge and split tool for Mac OS X. Combine PDFs is a lightweight utility that allows users to merge multiple PDF files and images (JPEG, TIFF, etc.) into a single PDF. Additionally, the software can split a PDF or create a new document with interleaved pages from two different several files.

New major malware attack for PDF users

Security companies alerted PDF users today of a new malware attack that hopes to exploit users of PDFs by using an unpatched design flaw in the PDF format. Mary Grace Gabriel, a research engineer in CA Inc.'s security group, stated on her blog, "CA ISBU recently received spam emails disguised as a legitimate email from 'your Company System Admin'. The spam mail informs the recipient about a recent change in mailbox servers and requires the user to check the malicious PDF attachment containing the instructions to update mail settings."

Adobe releases critical advisory updates

Late last week Adobe was struggling with the automation launch flaw, first discovered by Didier Stevens, and which Gottwals, a member of Adobe's security team noted on the Adobe blog saying, "We are currently researching the best approach for this functionality in Adobe Reader and Acrobat," and it may introduce changes in a future update.
