Global Graphics releases new version of Jaws PDF Creator

Global Graphics has released a new version of its desktop PDF creation software. Jaws PDF Creator 4.0 boasts new features aimed at business and prepress users. These include enhancements to the product's existing PDF-creation macros for Microsoft Office and compatibility with PDF 1.5.

Planet PDF releases new resource centers

Planet PDF has this week launched two new PDF resource centers, with more to follow in the near future. The Resource Centers serve to aggregate PDF content such as whitepapers, case studies and product information that relate to PDF. The centers are a great first port of call for users of third-party software, as they can find in-depth information on the products -- straight from the vendors themselves.

Essential Taceo released

Bellevue, Washington-based Essential Security Software has released Essential Taceo -- an email and document security small business rights management (SBRM) solution. Features include the ability to encrypt around 30 distinct file types -- including PDF, of course -- by dragging and dropping the files into email messages.

Adobe releases v7.05 patches for Reader, Acrobat

Adobe has released an update patch for Acrobat and Reader that adds Mac OS 10.4 "Tiger" support and a handful of new features which presumably didn't make it into the original Acrobat 7.0 release. The update fixes a compatibility issue with Quicktime 7 on the Mac platform, adding support for Firefox 1.0 and Mozilla 1.7 browsers. The update will also allow for the entry and display of Hebrew, Thai and Vietnamese text.

CADopia releases CADopia 6 software

LockLizard adds Mac support

LockLizard recently released its secure PDF Viewer for Apple Mac OS X platforms. Lizard Safeguard enforces PDF controls, including document expiration and instant revocation. The software will allow Mac users running OS X 10.2 and above to access PDF files secured with Lizard Safeguard in the same way as users running the supported Windows platforms.

Texthelp announces Lexiflow software

Assistive technology software publisher Texthelp Systems, Inc., has announced the release of a new software program that converts textbook publishers' content to a new digital format. Lexiflow is a set of tools that works with Adobe Acrobat to convert textbooks and other instructional materials saved in PDF format into an electronic "talking Flash" presentation.

CGS Publishing Technologies International LLC has announced that its Adobe Acrobat-based soft proofing workflow has been approved for advertisers and publishers of web-printed publications. With solid approvals by the review committee, CGS' interactive soft proofing system, ORIS Soft Proof, was granted SWOP certification for the 23" Apple Cinema and the Eizo ColorEdge CG2200 displays.

IMSI launches IMSI PDF to Word v2.0

IMSI recently announced the release of IMSI PDF to Word version 2.0. The tool converts PDF files into Microsoft Word (.DOC) and Rich Text Format (RTF) files to allow for easier access and editing, should source documents be unavailable. The program is designed to convert the text, graphics and formatting of the original PDF, and does not require either Acrobat or Word in order to function. The program can also be used to convert Word files into PDF documents.

Another PDF Conference is over, and it's time to look at what we've learned. Positive changes include a stronger practical focus in the seminar program and the new expo structure, which resulted in far less down-time in the exhibit hall. The show ended on a high note with the conference's grand prize draw.
