Immersive Design offers interactive 3D PDF generation

Massachusetts-based Immersive Design has released IPA 8.1, which incorporates support for interactive 3D PDF and U3D generation. When used in conjunction with Adobe Acrobat Professional 7.0, IPA 8.1 adds the ability to quickly create interactive 3D PDF files that can be used by anyone with free Adobe Reader 7.0 software.

Military gaffe results in classified data leak

A gaffe by the US military has caused an inadvertent information leak in a report that was posted to the Pentagon website over the weekend. Just a few clicks were enough to reveal names, training procedures and other secrets the U.S. military thought it had blacked out in a PDF report -- a process formally known as "redaction."

Acrobat alternative Nitro PDF Desktop goes on sale, starts "PDF wars"

ARTS PDF has announced that its Acrobat alternative, Nitro PDF Desktop, went on sale this week at an aggressively-priced $99. Launched at the Adobe Acrobat PDF Conference in Orlando, Florida, two weeks ago, a pre-release version of the software was made available for download at the Nitro PDF web site. Following a strategy not dissimilar to Google with its beta product releases, ARTS PDF invited pre-release users to participate in the final testing and evolution of Nitro PDF by welcoming feedback and ideas.

Known primarily for its Acrobat plug-ins, ARTS PDF has taken a bold step into the dual arenas of PDF creation and editing. The new application, entitled Nitro PDF, is a lightweight, Windows-only Acrobat alternative that is priced at a mere US$99, which is sure to make prospective volume licensors smile.

Adobe Acrobat and PDF Conference "exceeds expectations"

After the second and final day of the Adobe Acrobat and PDF Conference, it's time to look back on the conference that was. Having been on the spot on the show floor of the exhibit hall, I can personally say that even on the traditionally quiet second day, the booth traffic was surprisingly good. Exhibitor Charles James of Quite Software gushed over his experience, "It was a great show, good quality people, and I had a great time."
