Upstartle adds PDF support to web-based document editor

Silicon Valley-based Upstartle has announced the latest round of new features in its web-based, collaborative document editor. Entitled Writely, the product is currently in a free, public beta phase, but will ultimately be offered as a commercial service. The exciting part for Planet PDF readers, however, is the addition of PDF support.

DSI releases Reflow Optimization Service for PDF

Document Solutions, Inc. (DSI), has announed the immediate availability of Reflow Optimization Services for PDF. While there is a Reflow function available in Adobe Acrobat Professional, this alone is only reliable for relatively simple documents.

APSplit Desktop Edition released

Appligent, Inc. has announced the release of APSplit Desktop Edition, a standalone application for preparing PDF files to meet the document size requirements imposed by the courts and other government institutions on electronic filing submissions. Because it is based on Appligent's SPDF libraries, APSplit DE runs independently as a desktop application rather than as a plug-in for Adobe Acrobat.

Vancouver, BC-based Vitrium Systems has recently launched a pair of new PDF DRM solutions. protectedpdf and protectedpdf.crm are both Software as Service (SaS) digital rights management (DRM) solutions, albeit with distinct functionality. protectedpdf allows business people to secure, control and audit access to sensitive documents, while protectedpdf.crm puts the same tracking and updating functionality in the service of sales & marketing professionals, allowing them to measure the reach and impact of white papers, sell sheets, and other collateral.

Planet PDF releases new resource centers

Planet PDF has this week launched two new PDF resource centers, with more to follow in the near future. The Resource Centers serve to aggregate PDF content such as whitepapers, case studies and product information that relate to PDF. The centers are a great first port of call for users of third-party software, as they can find in-depth information on the products -- straight from the vendors themselves.

Essential Taceo released

Bellevue, Washington-based Essential Security Software has released Essential Taceo -- an email and document security small business rights management (SBRM) solution. Features include the ability to encrypt around 30 distinct file types -- including PDF, of course -- by dragging and dropping the files into email messages.

CADopia, a developer and distributor of products based on the OpenDesign and IntelliCAD technology, announced that CADopia 6 is now shipping. The new product adds the ability to export drawings as PDF or DWF files, along with an assortment of other features.

IMSI launches IMSI PDF to Word v2.0

IMSI recently announced the release of IMSI PDF to Word version 2.0. The tool converts PDF files into Microsoft Word (.DOC) and Rich Text Format (RTF) files to allow for easier access and editing, should source documents be unavailable. The program is designed to convert the text, graphics and formatting of the original PDF, and does not require either Acrobat or Word in order to function. The program can also be used to convert Word files into PDF documents.

PDF Conference closes with a drumroll...

Another PDF Conference is over, and it's time to look at what we've learned. Positive changes include a stronger practical focus in the seminar program and the new expo structure, which resulted in far less down-time in the exhibit hall. The show ended on a high note with the conference's grand prize draw.
