APSplit Desktop Edition released

Appligent, Inc. has announced the release of APSplit Desktop Edition, a standalone application for preparing PDF files to meet the document size requirements imposed by the courts and other government institutions on electronic filing submissions. Because it is based on Appligent's SPDF libraries, APSplit DE runs independently as a desktop application rather than as a plug-in for Adobe Acrobat.

ThinkFree has recently added significant features to its innovative online solution. ThinkFree Office Online offers functionality similar to that of Microsoft Office via a free online service. While already intriguing, the PDF relevance was introduced with the latest update, which adds support for PDF output and the German language.

SwiftView, Inc. has released SwiftView Pro, an enhanced version of the existing SwiftView PCL viewer. The product's enhanced rendering quality and PCL color support is also available in the latest release of SwiftConvert, which enables automated batch conversion to PDF.

Remote Approach 2.0 includes new page measurement features, which clients can now use to analyze page and document readership. Other new features in version 2.0 include analysis of how many people printed documents, geographic analysis, XML export, and comparative segment analysis.

Global Graphics has released a new version of its desktop PDF creation software. Jaws PDF Creator 4.0 boasts new features aimed at business and prepress users. These include enhancements to the product's existing PDF-creation macros for Microsoft Office and compatibility with PDF 1.5.

Planet PDF releases new resource centers

Planet PDF has this week launched two new PDF resource centers, with more to follow in the near future. The Resource Centers serve to aggregate PDF content such as whitepapers, case studies and product information that relate to PDF. The centers are a great first port of call for users of third-party software, as they can find in-depth information on the products -- straight from the vendors themselves.

Adobe releases v7.05 patches for Reader, Acrobat

Adobe has released an update patch for Acrobat and Reader that adds Mac OS 10.4 "Tiger" support and a handful of new features which presumably didn't make it into the original Acrobat 7.0 release. The update fixes a compatibility issue with Quicktime 7 on the Mac platform, adding support for Firefox 1.0 and Mozilla 1.7 browsers. The update will also allow for the entry and display of Hebrew, Thai and Vietnamese text.

CADopia releases CADopia 6 software
