A liberal editorial cartoonist singled out the Portable
Document Format (PDF) and the free Adobe Reader in a recent
comic strip that referenced newspaper coverage of a recent
government report suggesting the U.S. has failed to
adequately explain its policies to the Muslim world.
ARTS PDF recently announced the release of Stratify, a
plug-in for creating, inserting, editing and controlling PDF
layers in Acrobat.

Princess Cruises has launched what it's proclaiming as the
industry's first-ever "interactive eBrochures," with the
first PDF-based edition highlighting its Alaska 2005 tours.
The current issue of John Deubert's free monthly
newsletter features articles on "JavaScript: Creating a
Nagware PDF Document, Part 2" for Acrobat users and "Using
EPS Files in Handwritten PostScript Code" for PostScript
techies.

With the shortest Acrobat product cycle in company history, Adobe
Systems today announced the forthcoming release of its Acrobat 7
lineup of Portable Document Format (PDF)-oriented products. They are
slated to begin shipping by the end of 2004, according to the
company; Acrobat 6 shipped in mid-2003. Acrobat has more typically
been on an 18-month product cycle. Planet PDF is developing a range
of articles to showcase the next version of Acrobat and the free
Adobe Reader, including a variety of new and enhanced features. Check

On the eve of Adobe's announcement of Acrobat 7, Planet
PDF talked with Pam Deziel, Director of Marketing for Acrobat
on the desktop, about a few of the new
and enhanced features in the product family and about her
history with the company -- and particularly her decade-old
involvement with PDF. Deziel was a member of the Acrobat team
from versions 1.0 to 3.0, then returned as plans were taking
shape for the just-announced version that is due to begin
shipping in late 2004.
In collaboration with GATF Press, we're hosting a
promotional contest to give away during the next month eight
copies of the "PDF Print Production Guide, Second Edition,"
by Joseph Marin and Julie Shaffer of GATF. The updated book
covers PDF and production workflow solutions, Acrobat 6, Mac
OS X, print-related PDF plug-ins, and an introduction to PDF

The Newseum -- an Interactive Museum of News -- features
an online exhibit titled "Today's Front Pages" that each day
features PDF versions of the respective 'Page 1' from more
than 300 newspapers from around the world. Headlines and
coverage of the outcome of the recent U.S. presidential
election will be available on the site November 4, following
the delayed vote count and subsequent concession.
Autodesk and Bluebeam Software are developing joint
solutions to enable AutoCAD users to more easily convert
AutoCAD drawings into DWF (Design Web Format) digital files.
