PDF Conference opens strongly

A virtual stone's throw from Washington DC's halls of power, the tenth PDF Conference produced by Carl Young today kicked off in earnest. Arlington, Virginia's Hilton Crystal City this week played host to delegates from businesses hungry for knowledge or solutions, with presenters and exhibiting vendors more than happy to provide both.

PDF Conference filling post-event workshops

As it has in previous years, PDF Conference will be running a series of pre- and post-show workshops that run anywhere from a half day to two full days in length. The range of topics includes forms, JavaScript, developer topics, LiveCycle Designer and others, and some tutorials will feature giveaways to sweeten the pot.

PDF Webinars to offer Section 508 clinic

PDF Webinars has announced that it will be running a Section 508 clinic in early August. The two-part clinic targets U.S. Federal Government agencies who need to produce Section 508-compliant PDFs and private sector companies and contractors who work with U.S. Federal agencies. Attendees will learn how to best use new tools in Acrobat 7 to make legacy PDFs accessible, and will cover strategies for making accessible forms from scratch.

Adobe patches security hole in Reader, Acrobat

Last Wednesday, Adobe Systems acknowledged a vulnerability in both Adobe Reader and Acrobat that could be exploited using malware to release sensitive system information. Under certain circumstances, it is possible to discover the existence of local files on an end-user system using XML scripts.

Acrobat alternative Nitro PDF Desktop goes on sale, starts "PDF wars"

ARTS PDF has announced that its Acrobat alternative, Nitro PDF Desktop, went on sale this week at an aggressively-priced $99. Launched at the Adobe Acrobat PDF Conference in Orlando, Florida, two weeks ago, a pre-release version of the software was made available for download at the Nitro PDF web site. Following a strategy not dissimilar to Google with its beta product releases, ARTS PDF invited pre-release users to participate in the final testing and evolution of Nitro PDF by welcoming feedback and ideas.
